What is polarising film?

Polarising film is a special film used to reduce light reflections and improve visual clarity. It is particularly useful in situations where you need to look through reflective surfaces such as glass, water or ice.

Polarising film works by blocking unwanted reflected light, which provides clearer vision. It is often used in sunglasses, cameras and telescopes to improve image quality and minimise glare.

Benefits of polarising film

  • eliminates unwanted reflections,
  • improves image quality and readability,
  • reduces the risk of glare,
  • easy processing of the finished product – simply cut the required size,
  • protects against scratches thanks to the protective layer.

Get rid of reflections – what do polarising films do?

Polarising film is a practical solution when you often use different screens, for example in sunny places. Its purpose is to reduce unwanted light reflections. As a result, you get a readable image, regardless of whether you are using a smartphone, computer, GPS navigation, television or industrial camera.

The task of polarising film, also called optical film, is to control the amount of light and reflections on different surfaces, which significantly improves image quality. A real-life example is polarised glasses – thanks to the polarising filter, glow and glare are blocked, so you see more clearly and are not dazzled.

What does polarisation do?

Polarisation is a phenomenon in which the vibrations of an electromagnetic wave are arranged into one plane, making it a plane wave. As a result of this phenomenon, a polarised wave is extinguished using a polariser, which removes reflections. Polarising filters are most often used to reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces and to improve contrast and saturation.

Where can polarising film be used?

Polarising film can be used wherever it is needed and where there are many light reflections. A typical example of polarisation is photographic filters. Polarisers are also used to polarise flash light in photography.

What is a polariser?

A polariser is a material that selectively transmits light waves with a specific polarisation while blocking other directions of light wave vibration. In practice, this means that a polariser filters light, allowing only waves oscillating in one selected direction to pass through.

In the context of light, natural light is unpolarised, which means that light waves vibrate in all possible directions perpendicular to the direction in which they travel. A polariser limits these vibrations to one direction, which eliminates unwanted glare and can improve image quality.

Popular applications of polarising films

  • LCD displays, including televisions and computer screens – polarisers help control what light is emitted by the screen, allowing the image to be displayed.
  • Cameras – polarisers reduce glare from surfaces such as water, glass or metal.
  • Sunglasses – they reduce glare, for example from the surface of water or the road.
  • Industrial cameras – a polariser helps improve visibility in intense light and contrast, reduces glare and prevents the camera from being dazzled.

In addition, polarising films can be used to create 3D effects in DLP or LCD projectors.

Types of polarising film – linear polarisation and circular polarisation

Polarising films are available in two variants: with adhesive or without adhesive.

The offer also includes:

Linear polarising film – it has a micro-louvre structure and requires precise positioning at a right angle to the wave polarisation in order to extinguish it.

Circular polarising film – it does not require perpendicular positioning to the direction of light and works at any angle.

In terms of quality and application, circular polarising films are more popular. This is because a circular polariser works in any position and can even completely suppress glare cast by a lamp from a short distance.

Buying polarising film for windows

You can buy polarising film from us in sheets or in a selected size. We also offer coloured polarising films with excellent polarisation parameters.

Our offer also includes privacy filters, which limit the viewing angle – helping protect your computer, laptop or smartphone screen from curious looks. Before purchasing the film, you can also buy a sample to check whether this is the type of polarisation you need: polarising film sample.
