Polycarbon White Solar Window Film for Polycarbonate Skylights

Polycarbon White is an exterior solar window film intended for direct installation on polycarbonate sheets and polycarbonate skylights. Its task is to reduce heat build-up by limiting solar energy entering through the roof or canopy, while also diffusing daylight that passes through the polycarbonate surface.

The film is designed for buildings where rooflights, roof strips or polycarbonate roofing bring in useful daylight but also create excessive heat, glare and bright reflections. This makes it especially relevant for warehouses, production halls, factories, workshops, logistics facilities and other industrial or commercial buildings with large rooflight areas.

Polycarbon White was developed with the specific properties of polycarbonate in mind. Polycarbonate is a material with high thermal expansion, so the film structure must be able to work with the substrate during temperature changes. Thanks to its carefully selected layered construction, the film maintains dimensional stability and good adhesion even when the panel is exposed to substantial temperature fluctuations.

How Polycarbon White works

Polycarbon White works in two key areas: solar energy reduction and light diffusion. This combination is useful when the building needs daylight from rooflights but the direct sun is too intense for comfortable work below.

1. Reduction of solar energy

Part of the solar radiation, including infrared radiation responsible for temperature increase, is reflected and partly absorbed by the functional layer of the film. As a result, less heat energy enters the interior, which helps reduce overheating below polycarbonate rooflights and skylights.

2. Diffusion of daylight

The white, semi-matt structure breaks up direct sunlight. Instead of sharp light and bright reflections, the interior receives more even illumination. This helps reduce glare and improves visual comfort in warehouses, production halls, industrial facilities, workshops and other workplaces where people operate below roof glazing.

The film also limits UV radiation, helping reduce the risk of fading of equipment, materials or stored goods located under the skylight. Polycarbon White is intended for exterior use because it has a protective layer resistant to scratches and weather conditions.

Key benefits of Polycarbon White film

Icon showing lower temperature under a polycarbonate skylight

Helps protect rooms and halls with polycarbonate rooflights against excessive heat build-up.

Icon showing reduced glare from sunlight

Diffuses sunlight and helps reduce glare and harsh reflections on work areas, floors and equipment.

Icon showing UV radiation reduction

Limits ultraviolet radiation passing through polycarbonate rooflights.

Icon showing good integration with polycarbonate

Integrates well with the polycarbonate substrate and is designed for this specific surface.

Why a dedicated polycarbonate film is necessary

Polycarbonate behaves differently from glass. Under the influence of sun and temperature changes, roof panels can noticeably expand and contract. Applying a standard glass window film to this type of surface can lead to problems such as:

  • air bubbles,
  • wrinkling of the surface,
  • cracking of the adhesive layer,
  • detachment of the material from the panel.

Polycarbon White was created to compensate for the movement of the substrate. The selected adhesive and carrier layer help minimise stresses that appear when the polycarbonate sheet heats up and cools down.

Applications in warehouses, factories and commercial buildings

Polycarbon White is intended for exterior installation on polycarbonate surfaces where direct sun causes overheating, glare or uneven light. It can be used on:

  • rooflights made of multi-wall or solid polycarbonate,
  • continuous rooflight strips in production halls, factories and industrial buildings,
  • warehouse skylights where strong sun affects staff comfort or stored goods,
  • logistics centres, workshops and service buildings with polycarbonate roof panels,
  • terrace roofs, canopies, shelters and pergolas,
  • polycarbonate daylight domes and roof glazing elements.

It is a practical solution for facilities where excessive heat and intense direct sunlight reduce working comfort below the rooflight.

Polycarbon White can also be used to visually refresh older, matt or weathered polycarbonate sheets by giving them a more uniform milky appearance.

Ordering cut-to-size film

The film is available as a cut-to-size option. Ordering ready-made pieces reduces the need for cutting on site, speeds up installation and lowers the risk of application mistakes.

Installation notes

Before installation, the polycarbonate surface should be prepared carefully:

  1. Clean the polycarbonate thoroughly from dust, deposits and greasy contamination.
  2. Check the technical condition of the sheet, including cracks and stable fixing to the structure.
  3. Make sure the application follows the rules for exterior window films and is carried out in suitable temperature conditions.

For large surfaces, rooflight strips or roofs with a steep pitch, installation by an experienced team is recommended. Professional installation can reduce the risk of mistakes and shorten the time needed to complete the project.
