How does P2A security film work?

P2A class film is a multi-layer polyester laminate with high mechanical resistance and a strong adhesive. After it is applied to the interior side of the glass, it creates an additional layer that reinforces the pane.

When impact occurs, the glass may crack, but the fragments remain bonded to the film. This means the pane does not fall apart as easily and does not immediately create an opening that allows quick entry into the room. A person trying to force the protection must repeatedly strike the same area, which extends the time of the attack and increases the risk of detection.

P2A class according to EN 356 means resistance of the glass with the film to three impacts from a 4 kg steel ball falling from a height of 3 m. This laboratory parameter makes it possible to compare the level of protection offered by different solutions.

The film also filters up to 99% of UV radiation, helping reduce fading of furniture, floors and shop displays.

Applications

P2A film is used where the key requirement is to increase the resistance of existing glass without replacing the window joinery.

Typical installation locations include:

• shop windows and service points;
• financial institutions such as banks and currency exchange offices;
• schools, public offices and administrative buildings;
• ground-floor windows and balcony doors in houses;
• buildings exposed to acts of vandalism.

Difference between security film and 2B2 safety film

2B2 safety window film is designed to hold glass together after breakage and reduce the risk of cuts. Its main function is personal safety.

P2A security window film, in addition to the safety function, also increases the pane’s resistance to deliberate, repeated impacts. It has greater thickness and mechanical strength, which makes it harder to create an opening large enough to pass through.

Installation and use

The film is intended for installation on a clean, degreased glass surface from the interior side. After application it needs time for the adhesive to fully bond, usually several days depending on temperature and humidity.

To maintain the declared performance, installation by a trained installer is recommended.

The high protection potential of P2 class security window film means it is commonly installed in buildings where protection is required while keeping the window aesthetically clean. Good examples include shop display windows, bank windows and the offices of insurance companies.

After installation, the film is practically invisible, so it is not possible to tell easily that the room has been additionally protected.

Forcing entry through such glazing becomes much more difficult and usually requires specialist tools and more time. This additional time may allow security staff to intervene before the protected room is accessed.

Why choose P2A security film?
